Due to Covid-19 restrictions in Wales at the time, a version of the race was staged across the English border in Pulford in Cheshire in April 2021 and it was a huge success. The concept and format of getting the fastest elite and sub-elite marathon runners from the UK, Ireland and further afield really worked well and there were some amazing results.
For 2022 the race returns to the original plan in Wrexham (North Wales). This 7 lap race is open to male athletes capable of running 2:40 or quicker for a marathon and female athletes capable of running a sub 3:00 hour marathon or the elite half marathon equivalent (1:15 men and 1:30 women).
The lapped course provides and excellent venue for athletes to bring personalised drinks to numbered drink stations.
Now with a new and World Athletics accredited fast course. It is on flat, well maintained roads in a predominantly rural region with one stretch through an industrial area. The route will lend itself to comparatively fast times and will be an excellent venue for supporters and spectators.
