The Peak District Ultras are three races wrapped into one epic weekend of adventure in our favourite local playground, the Peak District National Park.
The Millstone 100 gets its name from the giant millstones which mark the entrances to the national park, symbolising the rich history of the area, and provides a serious challenge for even the most experienced ultra runners.
This is the park’s original 100-miler and the most challenging ultra in the area. It will take you on a grand tour of UK’s original national park, and show you the true diversity of its varied landscapes .
The first half takes you deep into the remote wilderness of the Dark Peak, giving you a feeling of being far far away from civilisation. Despite the cities of Manchester and Sheffield being only just over the hill.
The second half then takes you on a very different but equally spectacular tour of the While Peak area, with its high edges, deep canyon like dales, stately homes and lots of history.
It’s not to be underestimated though. To date only just over half those that have started have successfully reached the finish line. With many of those who succumbed admitting that they underestimated the the course, and comparing it to other renown races, such as the Lakeland 100. That said, if you’re well prepared and have a good strategy, it can certainly be conquered by anyone with enough determination.
Plus the race has gained a reputation for having an uber friendly and supportive event team and high levels of safety cover - not to mention the extremely well stocked aid stations.
If you’re not ready for the Millstone 100 yet, why not dip your toe by having a go at the Limestone 50 (which runs in parallel) and aim to guarantee yourself a 100 place next time.
