Chicago Marathon Start LineEntries opened this week for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on 12 October. One of the six majors, the race attracts some of the greatest runners in the world, with participants from all 50 US states and more than 100 countries.

Poll -  What Distance Was Your First Race?

Downhill racersIn our poll this month we want to know what your first race distance was. Did you train hard and start off on a half marathon, or did you decide to see how you faired against others in a 5k first?

Finishing up today, we see that 10k is the most chosen distance with 45% of the vote. In second place come 5ks with 27%, and half marathons are in third with 18%.

Meadows Marathon RunnersYou can find lots of events and results on our race listings page and organisers can add their race details to our event listings by signing up here.

After a relatively quiet few weeks, things kick into action this weekend with several high profile events taking place.  Meadows Marathon, Half Marathon and Fun Run will see hundreds of runners head to the Edinburgh Meadows for the student-run event. One for the girls, the Smokies 10 Mile Ladies Only Road Race returns to Arbroath. The first Lindsays Borders Marathon and Relay will be held in Kelso, and Stranraer Half Marathon and Junior Runs promises fun for all the family with nine different options available.
