News - Organisers Shake-Up Sunderland Running Festival

Runners under Waremouth BridgeEvent organisers DS Media & Events have announced a major shake-up to the programme for the 2014 Run Sunderland Festival on Sunday 4 May. The Marathon of the North will be suspended for a year due to extensive city centre development works while significant revisions to the half marathon route promise faster times for entrants.

News - Thrilling Finish At Leeds Abbey Dash

Leeds Abbey DashMore than 9,500 runners successfully completed yesterday's Leeds Abbey Dash 10K in what turned out to be one of the most thrilling finishes the race has witnessed. North Yorks Moors' Matty Hynes edged out Josh Lilly and Callum Hawkins to secure top spot, with just two seconds separating the top three performers.

So far, the most popular gadget to run with is a GPS timepiece, with 44.4% of the vote. Running with an app come in second with 39.7%, and the third most popular aide to running are good old stop-watches with 7.1%.

Race Listing

Leeds MoRunnerLast weekend's race results are now available online at northernrunningguide.com.

The 28th Clowne Half Marathon takes place on Sunday and follows a hilly loop through surrounding rural areas. It passes Whaley, Elmton, Creswell and Whitwell with peaks at 3, 6, 9 and 12 miles. The event also includes a 3-mile fun run.

A less well-established event is the Leeds Mo Run 10K/5K, which will be held for the first time on Sunday in the scenic Roundhay Park. All participants must have a moustache (real or fake) as it is part of a series of MoRuns being held across the country for Movember.
