News - Olympic Stars Set For Gateshead

Gateshead runnersA host of Olympic stars, including gold medallists Mo Farah and Greg Rutherford, will compete in this weekend's European Athletics Team Championships in Gateshead. The event will mark an eventful day for athletics in the north east, with the Great North 10K taking place on Sunday morning.

News - Redcar At 360 Degrees

Redcar 2013Both spectators and runners will be given a fresh perspective on this year's Redcar Half Marathon with the seafront revamped in a £75m project. The event, scheduled for 29 September, is expected to attract up to 2,000 runners.

News - Still Time For Trans Pennine Challenge

TransPennine Challenge LogoUp to 150 places for the first ever Trans Pennine Challenge, which involves either a 50k or 100k run against the backdrop of the Peak District, are still available. With the deadline passed for charity registrations, the entries are for 'self-fund' places, meaning prospective competitors would be required to cover the registration fee.

Water bottles are coming out on top as the most essential, with 23.1% of the vote. In second place are caps or visors with 19.2%, and in third place is sunglasses, with 13.5% of the vote.

Following Hadrian's Wall half marathon last Sunday, the UNESCO World Heritage site is again featured in a race this weekend. The Wall Ultra Run begins at Carlisle Castle on Saturday and finishes at Gateshead Millennium Bridge, featuring sections of the Roman fortification in a mixed-terrain route.

Also finishing in Gateshead, the Bupa Great North 10K returns to the northeast on Sunday. The biggest 10k in the region will see 5000 participants take in the iconic Newcastle Gateshead Quayside before finishing at Gateshead International Stadium.
