News From SCOTTISH RUNNING GUIDE

What Makes You Run?

big group of runners

Visitors to www.scottishrunningguide.com have said that keeping fit is the no.1 reason that they run. Over 43% of respondents to our online January poll have said 'maintain fitness' is what motivates them to run, well out in front as the most popular answer.

A significant number of people use running as a way of keeping their weight down as almost a quarter (24.8%) answered 'lose weight' to the motivation question. Surprisingly only 13.4% of the poll were inspired to run to 'compete in races'; that maybe reflects that www.scottishrunningguide.com and SCOTTISH RUNNING GUIDE are popular resources for recreational runners as opposed to elite club runners. 'Coping with stress' motivates 8.3% of you to run, 'supporting charity' (3.2%) and 'spending time with partner/friends' (1.3%).

There's still to have your say in the poll which ends on January 31 - go online now to have your say.

New York Half Now In March

Paula Radcliffe wins the New York Half Marathon 2009

Runners in Scotland still shivering after one of the coldest spells for many years may think it is time to plan a glamorous trip to dispel the gloom of these dark January days. One interesting option is the New York City half marathon. This prestigious event which is expected to attract over 10,000 runners is moving from its usual mid August date to March 21.

The new date means the race will be run in mild early spring weather - ideal for running. Lottery applications for the race which is always oversubscribed are closed but you can still arrange a place with an official travel partner such as Sports Tours International.
